DIGITAL DISPLAY FOR EASY COOL BOX MANAGEMENT

The CFX3 series features an easy to read high-resolution colour display panel which states the temperature and status of the cool box. Several protection systems are built into the display, including a scratch-resistant cover and IP65 rated housing to protect against dust and water splashes, so you can feel confident wherever you go. The upgraded USB port is now located in the display panel for a faster and more ergonomic way to charge your portable devices. The intuitive user-interface displays the voltage, Bluetooth/WiFi connection status and temperature in colourful graphics. The operating settings of your cool box can be adjusted at the press of a button with a simple menu.

THE VALUE OF AN IP44 RATING

Popular Dometic products like our CFX3 35/75DZ compressor coolers and the PLB 40 battery pack are marked with an IP44 rating. Do you want to know what this rating means? IP stands for Ingress Protection, which considers the extent to which a product is protected against penetration by solid and liquid particles. There are various different protection classes. Each of these classes has a different double-digit number after the IP. The first digit refers to the solid protection, while the second digit indicates the liquid protection. In the international classification scheme, solid protection ratings range from 0 (no protection assured) to 6 (fully dust tight), whereas liquid protection ratings range from 0 (no protection assured) to 9 (high-pressure cleaner-proof). An IP44 rating in ingress protection means the product is effectively protected against solid objects larger than 1 mm, such as tools and small wires, as well as against splash water from any angle. In other words, your Dometic CFX3 compressor cooler, and the PLB 40 portable power pack, are splash-proof and therefore fit for the rigors of outdoor use.

Dometic have taken a great deal of care with the design and development of the electronics only used in the CFX3 series. It is designed to be as energy efficient as possible. When the Dometic CFX3-35 starts up the compressor is gently started to save energy. If the desired temperature is not met within an expected short period of time, there is a turbo cooler which then comes on automatically to boost the compressor speed until the pre-set temperature is reached. Once met, the software and electronics switches the compressor back into energy-saving mode.

ABSORPTION COOLING

The Technical Bit

A concentrated ammonia solution is heated in a boiler and expelled as vapour. The pressurised ammonia gas is then liquefied in a condenser. Supplied with hydrogen, it evaporates and in the process extracts heat from the storage container. The ammonia gas then enters the absorber where it is reabsorbed in a weak solution of ammonia. Finally, the saturated solution flows back to the boiler where the whole cycle starts again.

The Technical Bit

The thermoelectric principle was discovered by J. C. A. Peltier, which is why the temperature generating parts of thermoelectric systems are referred to as Peltier elements. Thermoelectrics are based on the fact that cold or heat energy (depending on the polarity) is generated when a DC current is conducted between different types of metal. The heating or cooling capacity is further enhanced by heat exchangers and air fans. Ideal for low and medium cooling volumes.

The Technical Bit

Compressor units operate using a refrigerant that changes from liquid to gaseous state in the evaporator. The evaporation extracts heat from the interior of the cooling unit – the temperature drops. The compressor draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and passes it on to the condenser. Here, the absorbed heat is released to the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies again and flows to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again.
